Staff Spotlight ft. BDM, Jake

2020 so far has been an unpredictable year for all, and for us the nature of our business and the effects that the global pandemic have had on last mile logistics have meant that 2020 has been a year of expansion.

We recently caught up with our newest Business Development Manager, Jake Langham, to find out a little bit more about his story and how he landed with us here at Sherpa.

Tell us about your previous role? What was the catalyst for the move to Sherpa? 

My previous role with Mercedes Benz kick started my love affair with Sales, high end customer service, technology and innovation. I loved every day, sharing my passion with my Clients and I was always proud to be a part of a company with such a rich history and vision for future innovation. My move to Sherpa was for all the same reasons, but with Sherpa I really felt like I could make a more meaningful, positive and lasting impact on businesses and their teams.

What are the big differences between working in that industry and working in the Last Mile Delivery space?

I would say the biggest difference is in my previous industry i was selling a “nice to have” product, don’t get me wrong seeing someone drive away in a shiny new Mercedes Benz was great, but with Sherpa and the Last Mile Delivery space, I get to watch the service we provide help business grow on a daily basis and there is something special about being a part of someone else’s successes.

Sherpa HQ has 8 different nationalities in just a 15 person team. What’s it like working in such a multi-cultural office?

Variety is the spice of life!! It’s amazing to have so many languages, accents and beliefs in one office and with the restriction on travel at the moment it’s like a holiday everyday!!

What excites you most about 2020?

Literally everything! I am so excited to be part of such an amazing company and team. I am especially excited to make my mark at Sherpa and really become a key part of its successes and the successes of  the businesses we provide this amazing service for.

As the newest BDM, what is that you hope to bring to Sherpa. What would define your success?

I hope to bring a fresh perspective to Sherpa, sometimes the best ideas come from thinking outside the box. I am also looking forward to bringing my high level of customer service to our sales team as I truly believe you can’t have one without the other.

What kind of strategies have you found work best for team success in Sales?

Share everything, your knowledge, triumphs, defeats, share share share! I think in a lot of sales environments there is the perception that it’s every person for themselves but i have to disagree with that completely, teamwork is so important for the culture of a sales team and the success of the business as a whole. Succeeding with others is always better than succeeding alone!
